Safety Information

Winter Swimming Safety

Due to the cold temperatures during winter swimming, when the water temperature drops below 12 degrees, all swimmers are required to wear a wetsuit. You’re welcome to hire one from us or bring your own! For those interested in wild swimming without a wetsuit, exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis for members only. Additionally, all winter swimmers must use a tow float while cold water swimming outdoors in the lake for safety.

Our lifeguards are fully trained to assist participants during our winter swimming sessions. They will assess each swimmer’s ability and strength in the water, guiding them to safely complete either a full cold swim or a quick dip with our without a wetsuit.

*Please be aware that we may adjust the time or length of the routes if necessary. Our team has a duty of care, and if we believe the temperature is affecting our swimmers—regardless of their ability—we’ll take action to ensure everyone’s safety.

Safety Information

Before getting into Cold Water

Preparing for a cold-water swim is essential for both safety and enjoyment. Follow these steps to make your plunge a success:

01

Ease into it

Gradually acclimate by swimming in cooler water beforehand to help your body adjust to the chill.

02

Get moving

A light warm-up, like stretching or gentle exercises, can prepare your body, but avoid overdoing it.

03

Gear up

Protect your extremities with a swim cap or woolly hat and consider neoprene gloves and socks for extra insulation.

04

Prepare to warm up

Set up your exit plan with warm clothes, towels, and a cozy spot to recover nearby.

05

Scout the spot

Check for safe entry and exit points, and avoid areas with strong currents or hidden hazards.

06

Stay energised

Fuel up with a light snack and stay hydrated—cold water takes a lot of energy!

07

Know your boundaries

Listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard, especially if you’re new to icy swims.
